Ishaq Dar and Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Discuss Regional Security
On Saturday, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar had an important discussion with his Kuwaiti counterpart, Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. They addressed the growing security concerns in the region, emphasizing the need for de-escalation and respect for the sovereignty of all nations. They also highlighted the importance of fully implementing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
In a statement from the Foreign Office, it was revealed that the Kuwaiti foreign minister expressed serious worries about ongoing attacks in Kuwait. He urged all parties to exercise restraint and to adhere strictly to the Islamabad MoU, an agreement designed to reduce tensions between the United States and Iran.
The Islamabad MoU serves as a temporary settlement aimed at halting conflict and easing geopolitical strains in the Middle East.
Sheikh Jarrah acknowledged Pakistan’s positive role in fostering dialogue and enhancing regional stability, according to the statement.
During their talks, Dar stressed the immediate need for de-escalation and the importance of respecting all nations’ sovereignty and territorial rights. He insisted that maintaining peace and security in the region should remain a top priority and emphasized the need to stick to ceasefire agreements under the Islamabad MoU, avoiding any actions that could worsen the situation.
The two ministers agreed to stay in close contact regarding shared interests.
In related news, Kuwait reported on Saturday that Iran had targeted a power and water facility along with an oil installation, accusing it of attacking civilian infrastructure amid the escalating Middle East conflict. This attack came after a series of U.S. strikes on Iranian positions, which led to retaliatory actions by Iran against U.S.-allied nations in the Gulf.
According to Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity and Water, another attack on an electricity and water distillation plant resulted in a fire at one of the plant’s components.
