Amarnath and Vaishno Devi Yatras Temporarily Suspended Due to Bad Weather
NEW DELHI: On Saturday, authorities announced the temporary suspension of both the Amarnath Yatra and the Vaishno Devi Yatra due to worsening weather conditions. This precautionary measure aims to protect the safety of the pilgrims.
The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) made the announcement following a weather advisory from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). They emphasized that the decision was taken to prioritize the well-being of the devotees.
Pilgrims have been advised to remain patient and keep an eye on updates from the Shrine Board’s official channels. The board is actively monitoring the weather situation and will lift the suspension once conditions improve.
In addition to the Vaishno Devi Yatra, the Shri Amarnath Yatra will also be on hold starting July 19, according to officials in Jammu and Kashmir. Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Anshul Garg highlighted that no pilgrims would be allowed to move forward from both the Baltal and Pahalgam base camps.
Garg stated, “Updates regarding the resumption of the Yatra will be provided after ensuring the safety of routes and a thorough assessment of the weather.”
As of now, over 376,000 pilgrims have visited the Amarnath cave shrine during this year’s ongoing yatra.
