Randeep Hooda Wins Best Debut Director at National Film Awards
Randeep Hooda has reached a remarkable milestone in his career by winning the Best Debut Director award at the 72nd National Film Awards for his film Swatantrya Veer Savarkar. The actor, who took on multiple roles including directing, co-writing, and co-producing the 2024 biographical drama, shared his thoughts on this recognition, stating it’s a moment he is still trying to understand.
Hooda expressed his feelings after the award announcement, saying, “Winning the National Award for Best Debut Director is still sinking in for me. Making this movie challenged me in ways I never expected, but I am grateful that we persevered through all the obstacles.”
He emphasized the weight of responsibility he felt while depicting the life of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. “As an actor, co-writer, and first-time director, I poured my heart into this film, driven by a strong duty to portray Savarkar’s story with honesty and care. What we faced during the making of this film pales in comparison to the sacrifices he made,” Hooda reflected.

Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, released in theaters on March 22, 2024, is a Hindi biographical drama that highlights the life of freedom fighter and political thinker Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
