India-Africa Cooperation Set for Major Boost at Upcoming Summit
NEW DELHI: India is gearing up to strengthen its bonds with Africa in crucial areas such as agriculture, health, defense, technology, and cultural exchange. This initiative comes as the government prepares to host the 4th India-Africa Summit later this month, marking the first meeting of its kind in 11 years.
The summit was initially postponed due to the pandemic. However, officials report that interactions between India and African nations have remained robust over the past decade, with approximately 50 high-level visits from India to Africa, alongside nearly 100 from African leaders to India.
Expectations are high for this summit, with sources revealing that the government plans to unveil significant new development initiatives aimed at supporting African nations. More than 40 heads of state and government are expected to attend the event.
At the last summit, India pledged a $10 billion concessional line of credit for Africa, as competition with China’s growing influence in the region continues. Additionally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced $600 million in grant assistance for Africa, with India already meeting its commitments.
This upcoming summit is poised to foster deeper ties and enhance India’s contribution to the continent’s development journey.
