BENGALURU: Festive season sales have become a key opportunity for Indian families to make significant purchases, and this year’s Flipkart Big Billion Days (TBBD) is no different. During the initial hours of the sale, shoppers quickly gravitated towards mobile phones, large appliances, and electronics, showcasing strong interest ahead of Diwali.
In the first hour of the sale, large appliances experienced a remarkable 30% growth compared to last year, with air conditioners, refrigerators, and washing machines particularly in demand. Additionally, there was a notable 73% increase in the sales of tablets, indicating consumers are eager to upgrade their personal technology.
Smartphones also saw a surge in sales, especially premium and flagship models. Many shoppers utilized product exchange options, with one out of every four customers choosing to trade in their old devices. Moreover, around one in three customers opted for No Cost EMI plans, which help reduce the upfront cost of new purchases. Entry-level 5G smartphones, priced similarly to last year’s models, also attracted significant attention from budget-conscious buyers.
For those looking to make purchases during the festive season, this sale period offers a unique blend of exchange deals, EMI options, and bank offers, making it an ideal time to replace older gadgets or appliances before the upcoming summer.
The Flipkart Minutes service, which focuses on rapid delivery, saw a dramatic increase in orders—3.5 times higher than on regular days during the initial hour. Notably, new customers using this service grew elevenfold. During the Early Access period, an iPhone 17 was delivered to a customer in New Delhi in just 3.4 minutes.
Laptops and external hard drives were also sought after through the quick commerce service, which currently caters primarily to electronics rather than large appliances. It’s interesting to note that Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities emerged as some of the fastest-growing markets for this service, with almost half of the first-hour visitors coming from smaller towns and cities. Overall, non-metro areas contributed to about 60% of the demand during this promotional event.
This year’s sale kicked off with Early Access on October 8, specifically for Flipkart Plus, Black, and co-branded card members, paving the way for an exciting shopping experience this festive season.
