Sunny Deol’s Film ‘Lahore 1947’ Gets a New Title: ‘Batwara’
In exciting news for fans, Sunny Deol’s eagerly awaited film, formerly known as Lahore 1947, has officially been renamed Batwara. Recent reports reveal that Aamir Khan played a crucial role in securing the rights to this title from the family of the late producer Salim Akhtar.
A source shared that the film team initially considered the name Batwara 1947, but eventually decided that simply Batwara was the best fit. This change allowed them to secure the title rights.
It turns out that the rights to the name Batwara were held by Salim Akhtar’s family due to the original film released in 1989. Aamir Khan’s connection to the Akhtar family was facilitated through veteran filmmaker Karim Morani, who helped arrange a meeting between Aamir and Salim Akhtar’s son, Samad. Aamir visited Samad’s home and met with his mother and Salim Akhtar’s wife, Shama, to discuss the rights.
The meeting proved successful, with Aamir expressing his fond memories of working with Salim Akhtar on the film Baazi in 1995. He also highlighted why the title Batwara aligns perfectly with the film’s theme. The Akhtar family appreciated Aamir’s passion and ultimately agreed to sell the rights to the title.
Interestingly, earlier this month, Samad Akhtar shared a picture of himself with Aamir on social media, noting that he was impressed by Aamir’s enthusiasm and knowledge about cricket. Samad even gifted Aamir a jersey from his sports shop, 7S Sports World.
The original Batwara was directed by J.P. Dutta, known for films like Border and Refugee, and featured an impressive cast, including Dharmendra and Vinod Khanna.
In the new Batwara, Sunny Deol reunites with director Rajkumar Santoshi, and Aamir Khan will also make a supporting appearance. The film will additionally feature stars like Preity Zinta, Ali Fazal, Karan Deol, and Shabana Azmi.
Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project!
