Veteran producer T P Aggarwal has taken a significant step by filing a petition in the Bombay Civil Court in Dindoshi. His petition targets the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) and the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA). Aggarwal argues that no one should have the power to impose bans or issue non-cooperation orders against film industry members. This comes after FWICE declared a non-cooperation directive against actor Ranveer Singh due to a conflict with Excel Entertainment.
In an exclusive conversation, T P Aggarwal shared his thoughts. He noted his extensive experience, having served as the president of IMPPA for 17 years and leading the Film Federation of India. He mentioned that during his time, the Competition Commission of India ruled against FWICE. This judgment stated that FWICE lacks the authority to make such decisions.
Aggarwal explained, “It’s crucial for actors to have opportunities for work. By taking such actions, you risk affecting everyone’s livelihood. This motivated me to approach the court.”
When asked whether FWICE officials had reached out to him after the petition, he humorously replied, “Why should they? They should have contacted me before making their decision. They know my background and that I am a former president of IMPPA. They can’t just assert their power this way.”
Regarding his communication with Ranveer Singh on this issue, Aggarwal mentioned he hadn’t spoken to the actor. “I didn’t take this step for publicity or for Ranveer to come talk to me,” he clarified.
In conclusion, T P Aggarwal’s legal action highlights ongoing tensions within the film industry and raises important questions about authority and the rights of artists.
