RCB Aims for Historic Third Consecutive IPL Title
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have just secured their second back-to-back Indian Premier League (IPL) title, but they have no plans to slow down. After 18 years without a championship, the team has come together as a strong force, now looking to achieve something no other team has done: winning three titles in a row.
Following their impressive win over Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2026 final in Ahmedabad on Sunday, team director Mo Bobat gathered everyone in the dressing room to share his vision.
“I have one last thing to say,” he told the excited team. “No team has ever won three in a row. Skipper, what do you think? Can we do it?”
His question energized the room, and players like Virat Kohli buzzed with excitement at the chance to make history. Captain Rajat Patidar responded confidently, “Definitely.”
Defying Critics
Winning three consecutive titles is a rare accomplishment in sports, with Australia’s cricket team being the most notable example from 1999 to 2007. Bobat emphasized that a solid foundation is key to reaching such heights.
In a virtual press conference, Bobat reminisced about the mega auction that helped build their championship squad. At the time, many experts ranked RCB among the weakest teams.
“It’s amusing to think that after the auction, we were deemed second to last by numerous broadcasters and commentators,” Bobat shared. “Many said we would finish last.”
Instead of letting criticism get to them, the management stayed true to their strategy.
“We knew what we wanted to build in terms of team structure,” Bobat insisted. “We focused on the skills and character we needed from our players.”
He acknowledged that while teams can’t always win at the auction, they can certainly make choices they later regret.
Aiming Higher
A key reason behind RCB’s back-to-back victories is the steady leadership of Rajat Patidar. As captain, Patidar emphasizes teamwork and communication.
“I trust my instincts but also engage with the coaches and experienced players for their insights,” he explained. “That’s how I like to lead the team.”
With a strong leadership group supporting him, RCB is poised to evolve from two-time champions into a legendary dynasty. Bobat understands that success shouldn’t lead to complacency.
“I always believed that once we won our first title, we couldn’t settle,” Bobat concluded. “Like any great sports team, we need an endless goal that inspires both us and our fans.”
