Legendary Singer Suman Kalyanpur Passes Away at 89
Suman Kalyanpur, a renowned playback singer whose beautiful voice contributed to many hit Hindi movie songs from the 1960s and 1970s, has sadly passed away at her home in Mumbai. She was 89 years old. Known for her unforgettable tracks like “Na Na Karte Pyar Tumhin Se,” “Tumne Pukara Aur Hum Chale Aaye,” and “Aajkal Tere Mere Pyar Ke Charche,” the singer reportedly died from health issues related to her age.
Mangala Khadilkar, the author of her biography, confirmed the news, revealing that Suman Kalyanpur passed away peacefully at around 8 PM. “In her last days, she enjoyed listening to her own songs,” Khadilkar mentioned.
Throughout her remarkable career, Kalyanpur established herself in the Indian music scene during a time when many famous playback singers reigned. Her gentle and expressive voice touched many hearts, helping her gain a significant following during Hindi cinema’s golden era.
Kalyanpur was not only limited to Hindi songs; she also recorded music in various Indian languages, including Marathi, Bengali, Kannada, Assamese, and Odia. Her talents extended to a variety of genres, including devotional music, ghazals, and thumris, showcasing her versatility as an artist.
She is survived by her daughter, Charu. Family sources indicate that her last rites will take place at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Mumbai on Monday between 11:30 AM and 12 noon.
