Hong Kong Announces Squad for Asia Cup 2025
Hong Kong has revealed a 20-member team for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, which kicks off on September 9 in the United Arab Emirates. This tournament marks their fifth time participating, with previous appearances in 2004, 2008, 2018, and 2022. They are led by captain Yasim Murtaza and vice-captain Babar Hayat, both of whom are eager to make a significant impact in the tournament.
The squad is a mix of seasoned players and fresh talent, including standout names like Anshuman Rath, Nizakat Khan, Babar Hayat, Aizaz Khan, Ehsan Khan, Kinchit Shah, Ayush Shukla, and Haroon Arshad. Notably, Babar Hayat is one of only two players who have scored centuries in the Asia Cup T20, the other being Virat Kohli.
Head coach Kaushal Silva stressed the importance of a competitive spirit within the team, stating, “Every player needs to earn their place. We’re not just here to take part; we aim to compete, win, and enjoy the game.”
In preparation for the tournament, Hong Kong will conduct a training camp in the UAE starting August 24. Under Silva’s supervision, the team will engage in practice matches and intensive training, focusing on team bonding and performance evaluation.
Hong Kong will compete in Group B, facing Afghanistan on September 9, followed by a match against Bangladesh on September 11—all set in Abu Dhabi. Their final group match will be against Sri Lanka on September 15 in Dubai.
