Modi Announces New Measures Against Exam Cheating
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Modi shared an important update late Thursday regarding efforts to combat exam cheating in the country. He revealed that the Union Cabinet will meet on Friday to discuss a new bill aimed at strengthening anti-cheating laws. This proposal seeks to implement stricter punishments for those found guilty of cheating.
In a video message posted on social media just before midnight, he shared plans for the bill to be introduced on Monday, coinciding with the start of the second week of the current Parliament session. The government is eager to pass this legislation quickly.
Modi also announced the establishment of fast-track courts to address these cheating cases more efficiently. He emphasized that the government has been actively working on issues related to medical entrance exam leaks, particularly over the past two and a half months. The priority has been to ensure that students do not lose their academic year. For this reason, exams were conducted for 22 lakh students, and results were declared promptly.
The Prime Minister’s announcement comes just hours after the government replaced the education secretary amid ongoing protests over the NEET exam leak. In recent days, the Prime Minister’s Office has been heavily involved with the education ministry, dealing with questions related to the NEET exam and proposed reforms.
Modi expressed understanding of how distressing the paper leak incident has been for countless students and their families. He assured that those responsible have been identified and are now facing legal consequences. His main focus, he reiterated, was to ensure that NEET aspirants did not miss out on their academic opportunities, and swift efforts were made to hold re-exams in record time.
“We recognize that this is a serious issue, and we are committed to finding solutions,” Modi said in his message. He highlighted the necessity of the upcoming bill as a significant step forward, assuring that the welfare of the youth remains a top priority.
“Nothing is more important than the future of our young people! Those who seek to undermine it will face serious consequences,” he added on social media.
