Actors Ali Fazal and Sonali Bendre have begun filming for a new web series in Delhi, directed by the acclaimed Prosit Roy, known for his work on Paatal Lok. The series is reportedly inspired by the notorious Ranga-Billa murder case, one of the most shocking crimes in Delhi’s history, which had a profound impact on the city and its residents.

The case dates back to 1978 and revolves around the tragic abduction and murder of siblings Geeta and Sanjay Chopra. Initially, the perpetrators, Kuljeet Singh (nicknamed Ranga) and Jasbir Singh (Billa), intended to steal a car but changed their plans when they found the children inside. This crime captured national attention, sparking public outcry and leading to changes in laws concerning kidnapping and child protection.

The new series aims to explore the events surrounding the crime and its effects on the people of Delhi at that time. While the storyline has not been officially disclosed, it is said to closely mirror the real-life incidents that transpired.

A source involved with the production revealed, “The team has spent months researching the case in depth. The series, now shooting in the capital, will focus on how events unfolded after the murders. It is being approached with sensitivity and intends to showcase the profound impact the case had on the city. Filming is taking place in various locations throughout Delhi.”

This series marks one of the first scripted adaptations of the Ranga-Billa case, with Ali Fazal and Sonali Bendre in leading roles, promising a gripping portrayal of a pivotal moment in Delhi’s history.
