The final day of the 2025-26 Indian Super League (ISL) season is shaping up to be a thrilling event, with four teams still in contention for the championship. As fans gear up for the matches on May 21, chaos is in the air, with goals across Kolkata and New Delhi capable of altering the league standings dramatically.

Currently, East Bengal and Mohun Bagan Super Giant are tied at 23 points after 12 games, but East Bengal has the upper hand thanks to a better goal difference of +18, compared to Bagan’s +13. Close behind are Punjab FC and Mumbai City FC, both with 22 points. This sets the stage for an exciting final night, where any result could completely change the outlook of the table.

The matches are set to kick off simultaneously at 7:30 PM IST on May 21, meaning the standings could shift rapidly throughout the evening.

The matches for the final day are:

  • East Bengal vs Inter Kashi
  • Mohun Bagan Super Giant vs Sporting Club Delhi
  • Punjab FC vs Mumbai City FC
  • Jamshedpur FC vs Odisha FC

This year’s ISL season has been unique, with numerous challenges earlier in the campaign due to scheduling and administrative issues. Yet, it has led to an exciting final matchday with half of the top teams still in the running for the trophy.

The shortened season—just 13 matches instead of the usual 24—has kept the competition tight, preventing any team from pulling ahead easily. Now, all eyes are on Kolkata and New Delhi.

At Salt Lake Stadium, Mohun Bagan faces Sports Club Delhi, knowing they need to win, but they may still need East Bengal to stumble. A few kilometers away, East Bengal takes on Inter Kashi, looking to secure their first domestic league title in 22 years with a victory.

In New Delhi, Punjab FC and Mumbai City FC will clash in a high-stakes match. Both teams know that only a win keeps their title hopes alive. Jamshedpur FC, while mathematically still in the mix with 21 points, will need a series of favorable outcomes for a shot at the trophy.

Interestingly, this anticipation comes just after a shock from the All India Football Federation, which denied Mohun Bagan and six other clubs their Premier 1 licenses for the next season. While excitement brews on the field, uncertainty lingers off it.

WHAT TEAMS CAN DO TO WIN THE ISL 2025-2026?

EAST BENGAL

East Bengal is in the best position heading into the final day. They lead the table with 23 points and a goal difference of +18, which could be crucial. Here’s what they need:

  • Win against Inter Kashi to almost guarantee the title.
  • A draw could still lead to victory if Mohun Bagan does not win.
  • If both teams end with the same points, East Bengal’s goal difference gives them the edge.

MOHUN BAGAN SUPER GIANT

Mohun Bagan’s situation is trickier due to their goal difference. They need to:

  • Win against Sporting Club Delhi.
  • Hope East Bengal either draws or loses against Inter Kashi.
  • To overcome East Bengal’s goal difference, they would need a convincing win and rely on East Bengal dropping points.

PUNJAB FC

Punjab FC enters the final day with 22 points. They must:

  • Defeat Mumbai City FC.
  • Rely on both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan to not win their matches.

A victory would elevate them to 25 points, a dramatic turn in the title race, while a draw ends their hopes.

MUMBAI CITY FC

Mumbai City FC’s situation mirrors Punjab’s. They need to:

  • Beat Punjab FC.
  • Hope for losses from East Bengal and Mohun Bagan.

A loss or draw would likely knock them out of contention.

JAMSHEDPUR FC

Jamshedpur remains technically in the race with 21 points, but their path is complicated. They must:

  • Win against Odisha FC.
  • Hope East Bengal and Mohun Bagan both lose, and that Punjab FC vs. Mumbai City FC ends in a draw.

This all must happen while addressing the significant gap in goal difference compared to their rivals.

With simultaneous kickoffs at 7:30 PM and pressure mounting on every team, anything can happen in this nail-biting finale. Fans will be glued to their seats until the last whistle blows.
