Roger Federer Set for Exciting Comeback at 2025 Shanghai Masters

Roger Federer is making a much-anticipated return to the tennis scene at the 2025 Shanghai Masters. On August 10, he announced that he will participate in a special celebrity doubles event called “Roger & Friends” on October 10 at Qizhong Stadium. This marks Federer’s first appearance in Shanghai since his win there in 2017, where he claimed his second singles title.

The exhibition promises to be a star-studded event. Alongside Federer, attendees will see notable personalities like actor Wu Lei, martial artist and actor Donnie Yen, and Zheng Jie, a former world No. 3 in doubles and champion at both the 2006 Australian Open and Wimbledon.

In a promotional video, Federer expressed his excitement, stating, “Hello, this is Roger, and I am really happy to be returning to Qizhong Stadium in Shanghai for the Rolex Shanghai Masters.” He added, “Shanghai has always been a special place for me, with great fans, unforgettable memories, and a real love for the game.”

The Shanghai Masters is scheduled from October 1 to October 12, with Jannik Sinner as the defending champion after defeating Novak Djokovic in last year’s final.

Celebrating Roger Federer’s Legacy

Federer officially retired from professional tennis in 2022 at the Laver Cup in London, bringing an end to a remarkable 24-year career. He played a doubles match alongside his longtime friend and rival, Rafael Nadal, against Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe. The match concluded with a close score of 4–6, 7–6 (2), 9–11.

The 41-year-old Swiss legend received a warm farewell at the O2 Arena, with fans and fellow players honoring him during an emotional on-court ceremony.

Over his illustrious career, Federer won 20 Grand Slam singles titles, including a record eight at Wimbledon. He held the World No. 1 ranking for an astonishing 310 weeks, 237 of which were consecutively. In addition, he claimed 103 ATP singles titles and earned Olympic gold in men’s doubles with Stan Wawrinka in 2008, along with a silver medal in singles in 2012.

Earlier this year, Federer, along with Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, participated in a heartfelt ceremony at Roland Garros to pay tribute to Rafael Nadal’s incredible legacy, which includes a record 14 French Open victories.
