Gill’s Captaincy Praised Despite Loss in Headingley Test
Prasidh Krishna has heaped praise on Shubman Gill following his captaincy debut, even though India faced defeat in the recent Headingley Test. Gill stepped up as the new Test captain in place of Rohit Sharma and impressed many by scoring a century in his first innings at the helm.
Nevertheless, Gill’s leadership faced criticism as the bowlers struggled, leading to India losing the match by five wickets. Prasidh came forward to defend his captain during a chat with reporters, emphasizing that Gill managed the bowlers well and ensured they received adequate rest between overs.
“Shubman did a pretty good job,” Prasidh said. “He rotated the bowlers effectively and brought them in at the right moments. He identified opportunities and made wise choices, which created a great team atmosphere.”
Team Spirit and Communication
Prasidh mentioned that Gill is an expressive captain who keeps the entire team involved. Following a disappointing performance from the lower order in the first Test, he stressed that they are focused on improving ahead of the next match.
“He’s been communicating with all of us,” Prasidh explained. “As lower-order batsmen, we are definitely working on our skills. We’re putting in the effort during net sessions. It’s also about believing in ourselves and staying at the crease longer. If we do that, the runs will come.”
He also dismissed rumors of any issues within the team and reassured that the atmosphere in the dressing room remains positive, despite the loss in Leeds. “We are still motivated and happy. We came here knowing the importance of this opportunity. Even if we appeared quiet at times in the game, we still had our plans,” Prasidh added.
India will take on England in the second Test starting July 2.
