US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Visit India for Key Discussions
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to embark on a four-day trip to India starting May 23. This visit aims to strengthen collaboration in trade, defense, and energy sectors.
Notably, this will be Rubio’s first visit to India. The State Department confirmed that his itinerary includes stops in Kolkata, Agra, Jaipur, and New Delhi.
“Secretary Rubio will travel to India from May 23-26, where he will visit Kolkata, Agra, Jaipur, and New Delhi,” said State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott. During his meetings with senior Indian officials, he will focus on discussions around energy, security, trade, and defense partnerships.
Rubio is coming to India after attending the NATO Foreign Ministers meeting in Sweden on May 22.
Additionally, the US embassy in New Delhi announced that India will be hosting a meeting of the “Quad” group, which includes Australia, Japan, and the United States. Secretary Rubio’s participation in this meeting is highly anticipated as it will be his first official visit to India, coinciding with important Quad discussions and celebrations of 250 years of US-India relations.
Next week’s Quad foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi, scheduled for May 26, aims to address various global issues, including the situation in West Asia. Rubio will join Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu, with Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar overseeing the discussions.
