Air India Flight Diverted to Jaipur Due to False Hijack Alert
An Air India flight traveling from Frankfurt to Delhi had to change its route to Jaipur after a false hijack alert was triggered. Officials later confirmed that this was caused by a technical issue, leading to an investigation by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
The incident involved Flight AI2030, a Boeing 787-9, which was carrying 293 passengers along with 13 crew members. The plane landed safely in Jaipur at approximately 9:35 AM and was moved to a secure area for a thorough security check.
Details of the Incident
As part of standard procedure, the pilot transmitted a “Squawk Code 7500,” which signals a possible hijack situation. Once on the ground, passengers were taken to the terminal while security personnel conducted checks on the aircraft in an isolated bay.
After assessing the situation, authorities determined that there was no actual threat, and the alert was due to a technical malfunction. Officials stated that once security checks were completed, the passengers reboarded the same aircraft, which then continued its journey to Delhi.
Investigation Underway
The DGCA is now looking into the incident to understand what caused the false alarm. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the alert was handled quickly and professionally by the Jaipur airport staff.
Air India confirmed that once clearance was received, the flight resumed and arrived in Delhi around 3:10 PM, with the same crew onboard.
Security procedures were followed diligently, ensuring the safety of everyone involved. Authorities maintain that such protocols are essential for the safety of air travel, even if the threat turns out to be unfounded.
