Hyundai Motor Group has announced plans to invest $15.5 billion in India from 2026 to 2032. This investment will be aimed at enhancing production capabilities, creating advanced automotive technologies, improving research facilities, and strengthening local supply chains, as reported by Channel NewsAsia.
### A Seven-Year Strategy
The investment initiative spans over seven years, during which Hyundai intends to set up a dedicated investment division in India. This strategy aims to significantly increase the production volume of both Hyundai and Kia in the country.
The announcement came after a meeting between Hyundai’s executive chair and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on October 13.
### Focus on Research and Development
Hyundai plans to allocate around $700 million specifically for an Indian research and development center. This center will feature a vehicle test track and will focus on next-generation automotive technologies.
Currently, Hyundai Motor Group employs over 24,000 individuals in India. The company predicts that this new investment will generate more job opportunities in areas such as manufacturing, research, and engineering, although specific job creation numbers have not been disclosed.
Hyundai’s total annual production capacity in India is now over 1.4 million vehicles, which includes 824,000 units from its Chennai facilities, 170,000 from Pune, and 431,000 from the Kia plant in Anantapur.
