Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on major countries such as China, India, Brazil, and South Africa to play a more active role in influencing Russia and aiding diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing conflict. He noted that these nations, which form part of the Global South, currently lack a strong and united approach toward the situation.
In recent comments, Zelenskyy pointed out that Ukraine is continually collaborating with its allies, including European nations, the United States, Canada, Japan, and Australia, to enhance its defense systems and diplomatic initiatives. However, he lamented the inconsistent support from countries like China and India, urging them to take a firmer stand.
Zelenskyy highlighted that each of these influential countries has potential leverage over Russia to help facilitate peace. He emphasized that ensuring Ukraine’s security contributes to global stability.
This week, the Russian military has intensified its attacks, with Zelenskyy reporting that over 2,200 drones, around 1,650 bombs, and 38 missiles have been launched at Ukraine. Tragically, these attacks have resulted in casualties, with at least three fatalities reported in the Zaporizhzhia area due to shelling, and a man losing his life in Kyiv when a drone struck his home.
The recent offensive has targeted various civilian infrastructures, affecting regions such as Odesa, Kharkiv, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Poltava, Zhytomyr, and Kyiv. Notably, a data center in Kyiv was hit twice in a single morning, injuring three people, including two children. The attacks have disrupted services at this facility and caused temporary outages for some Ukrainian media outlets.
Zelenskyy stressed Ukraine’s commitment to continue seeking military support, improving air defenses, and intensifying diplomatic efforts against Russia. He called on countries worldwide to leverage their influence to help bring the war to an end, expressing gratitude to those already supporting Ukraine.
