Trump Calls for Iran to Surrender as Ceasefire Deadline Approaches
As the ceasefire between the United States and Iran nears its expiration, President Donald Trump is urging Iran to capitulate. In a conversation on Monday, he emphasized that Iran should “put up the white flag.” This remark comes as tensions rise in the Strait of Hormuz, with Trump reaffirming his commitment to preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
The 60-day ceasefire is set to end on Monday, but Trump insists that there is still an opportunity for peace. He mentioned ongoing talks with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that are taking place without the involvement of Iranian political leaders. “They should surrender,” Trump said, reinforcing his message about Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump reiterated that his main goal is to ensure that Iran does not acquire nuclear capabilities in any form. He clarified that there remains no rush on reaching a deal, stating, “I have no time schedule. I’m not in a hurry.”
The President has long sought to navigate the complex political landscape within Iran, especially as the country deals with internal divisions among its leaders. U.S. officials are reported to be using a backchannel for direct communication with IRGC representatives, amidst a backdrop of a fractured Iranian regime.
During the interview, Trump did not shy away from expressing his frustration about Oman’s involvement in the negotiations. He warned that if Oman obstructs the process, there would be severe consequences.
Turning his attention to Israel, Trump acknowledged that it would be wise for him to step back from the country’s elections, although he left the door open for potential endorsements. He also suggested that Israel should reconsider its military actions in Gaza, advocating for a disarmament strategy regarding Hamas, stating, “We have our own relationship with Hamas… They are giving up their guns.”
As concerns about the U.S. military’s resources linger, Trump downplayed the extent of American arms used in recent conflicts, referring to it as “peanuts,” while asserting that the U.S. retains ample firepower.
With this critical moment approaching, the international community watches closely as the situation unfolds, hoping for a resolution that could lead to lasting peace in the region.
