Iran Declares Victory Over U.S.; Tensions Rise Over Golan Heights
Iran’s President has made headlines by claiming that the world acknowledges Iran’s victory in its ongoing conflict with the United States. His statement exposed contradictions within the U.S. stance regarding the Golan Heights, as expressed by a prominent U.S. official.
Iranian President Declares War a Win
According to state media in Iran, President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed confidence on Friday, stating that the ongoing tensions with the U.S. should come to an end because the world recognizes Iran’s success. He claimed, “The entire world approved our victory and the U.S. is hated,” highlighting Iran’s belief that its standing has improved globally despite U.S. pressure.
These comments came at a time when the Trump administration is ramping up its financial campaign against Iran, promising a rigorous “economic D-Day.” President Trump has stated that the U.S. is introducing unprecedented levels of economic sanctions planned to force Iran to comply with demands regarding its nuclear program and ensure the Strait of Hormuz remains open for oil and natural gas transport.
Conflicting Views on Golan Heights
In a separate issue, comments made by Tom Barrack, the U.S. Ambassador to Turkey and special envoy for Syria, have stirred controversy. In a recent interview, Barrack asserted that Israel still holds the Golan Heights unlawfully, contradicting official U.S. policy.
He stated, “In the Golan, with Syria, they (Israel) still occupy the Golan, against the U.N. resolutions,” during his conversation with Lebanese-Australian entrepreneur Mario Nawfal. Israel captured the Golan Heights from Syria during the 1967 war and formally annexed the territory in 1981. The U.N. regards this area as occupied Syrian land, calling for Israel’s withdrawal to the 1967 lines.
In March 2019, President Trump made a controversial move by recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, breaking from longstanding U.S. policy. This decision did not alter the territory’s status under international law nor gain broader recognition from other nations.
Just recently, Colombia became the second country—after the U.S.—to acknowledge Israeli control over the Golan Heights. Barrack’s statements have faced backlash, with conservative activist and close ally of President Trump, Laura Loomer, demanding his resignation for his apparent misunderstanding of U.S. foreign policy.
As these developments unfold, the tensions between Iran and the U.S., along with the situation in the Golan Heights, continue to create ripples across the Middle East.
