Tragic Helicopter Crash in Kenya Claims Lives of Five Americans
In a devastating incident, a helicopter crash in northern Kenya has left five Americans dead, as reported by the U.S. State Department. The accident occurred around 9 a.m. in a mountainous area close to Kirish in Samburu County, according to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority.
Among those who lost their lives was Telemundo executive José Suárez, known for managing several stations in Florida. NBCUniversal News Group Chairman Cesar Conde confirmed his passing in a message to company employees.
Lady Lori Helicopters, the firm operating the flight, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and offered condolences to the victims’ families and friends. They stated on social media, “Our deepest sympathies are with the guests, crew, their families and loved ones, and all those affected by this tragic accident.”
The helicopter, a Eurocopter EC130 B4 registered as 5Y-GYM, was en route from Suyian Conservancy, a private wildlife reserve, to Ololokwe when it crashed near Mount Ololokwe. The cause of the accident is still under investigation by relevant authorities.
The U.S. Embassy in Kenya is currently coordinating with local officials and offering consular assistance to those impacted by the crash. The State Department also emphasized, “The Trump Administration has no higher priority than the safety and security of Americans. We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones on their loss.”
