Job Opening: Finance Reporter at The Information
The Information seeks an experienced finance reporter to enhance its team and improve coverage on the crucial link between technology and financial deals. In today’s market, technology companies are on the lookout for capital, while Wall Street is eager to provide funding.
As advancements in artificial intelligence, data centers, and infrastructure reshape the tech landscape, businesses are exploring diverse funding methods, including joint ventures and debt markets. Simultaneously, Wall Street is reorganizing its tech sectors and introducing new financial services.
This role is not just about quick headlines; it offers the chance to delve deep into how various transactions are structured, why tech firms pursue them, and how investors are reacting. It’s an opportunity to bring unique insights to a discerning audience in technology and business journalism, building on the strong groundwork laid by our current finance team focusing on AI, deals, and regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Generate impactful stories through exclusive scoops, informed analysis, and thorough feature reporting.
- Investigate how technology companies are securing funding outside of traditional venture capital avenues, including public debt and equity.
- Report on how major banks are transforming their strategies to cater to tech and AI clients, along with any new initiatives they are launching.
- Simplify complex transactions, explaining their structures, benefits, and implications clearly.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the newsroom on various topics related to AI, initial public offerings (IPOs), and financial strategies on Wall Street.
- Make regular appearances on “TITV,” The Information’s daily live video show.
Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of reporting experience in business, finance, or technology.
- A proven history of breaking stories and building sources in a competitive environment.
- A solid understanding of capital markets, investment banking, corporate finance, or technology transactions.
- Capability to explain complex financial concepts clearly and accurately.
- Experience with financial documents like offering materials and credit agreements.
- Skills in networking with key players in Wall Street and the tech industry, from bankers to executives.
- Strong judgment in identifying the significance of specific deals or products.
- Willingness to work from The Information’s offices in San Francisco or New York.
Success Metrics:
Expect to publish your first story within a month. By the six-month mark, you should be leading discussions in your beat and consistently delivering stories that are read by bankers, investors, tech leaders, and competitors alike. Over time, your writing will become essential for understanding Wall Street’s role in funding the technology sector and vice versa.
Additional Notes:
Only applicants eligible to work in the United States will be considered. This position is hybrid, requiring in-office attendance three days per week.
Salary:
The salary range for this role is between $120,000 and $200,000 annually, plus bonuses and benefits. This range reflects the company’s belief at the time of posting, but actual compensation may vary based on location, experience, and skills.
