Uber’s Intercity Travel Index Highlights Growing Travel Trends in India
Uber has published its latest Intercity Travel Index, showcasing how India’s expanding highway network is changing the travel landscape. This index is based on data collected from Uber intercity trips between April and June 2026.
The data reveals that while major metropolitan areas still have busy travel routes, the fastest growth is now seen in the connections between Tier-2 cities and popular tourist spots. Key routes such as Mumbai-Pune, Delhi-Agra, Bengaluru-Mysuru, Lucknow-Kanpur, and Ahmedabad-Vadodara remain among the most traveled paths. However, new connections like Delhi-Dehradun, Chennai-Puducherry, and Bengaluru-Mysuru are gaining popularity, showing an increasing demand for regional road travel.
Travel to weekend getaways like Dehradun, Puducherry, Nashik, and Aurangabad, as well as historic and pilgrimage sites such as Agra, Mysuru, and Udaipur, also saw a notable rise during the summer months.
Shiva Shailendran, Director of Revenue & Category Management at Uber India & South Asia, explained that safer intercity travel options, combined with better road infrastructure, are encouraging more road trips across India. This trend isn’t limited to major urban areas; it includes growing interest in regional travel as well.
The index highlights the shift in travel preferences towards experience-driven trips, especially around long weekends. Reports show a spike in Uber intercity rides during holidays like May Day and Bakrid. Additionally, features designed for safety, such as the 24/7 Safety Line and audio recording, are making Uber Intercity a popular choice for travelers.
