India’s Standout Performances on Day 3 of the Commonwealth Games

On July 25, Indian athletes shone brightly at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Boxer Sachin Siwach and the women’s lawn bowls team of Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh delivered impressive performances, keeping India’s medal hopes alive.

Sachin Siwach Advances in Boxing
Sachin Siwach showcased his talent in the men’s 60kg boxing category, winning his bout against Canada’s Al-Ahmadieh with a 4-1 decision. The match was closely contested, but Sachin took the lead early, impressing judges in the opening rounds. Although Al-Ahmadieh made a strong push in the final round, Sachin’s early performance was enough to secure his spot in the Round of 16. “It was tough, but I was confident since I had beaten him before,” he said, looking ahead to his next match against England’s William Hewitt.

Rupa and Pinki Maintain Winning Streak
In lawn bowls, the duo of Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh continued their outstanding form, clinching their third consecutive victory. After dropping the second set to Tonga’s Paris Baker and Milika Nathan, they stayed cool under pressure during the tie-breaker to secure the win. Their success keeps them in contention for medals in the competition.

Putul Sonowal Faces Setback
However, it wasn’t a perfect day for all. Putul Sonowal faced his first loss, going down to Malaysia’s Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple in the men’s singles. After a strong start with two straight wins, he struggled to find his rhythm in this match, ending with a score of 4-8, 8-9. With this defeat, he now needs to win his remaining matches convincingly to maintain his chance for medals.

Swimmers Struggle in Freestyle
The men’s 400m freestyle saw Indian swimmers Dhakshan Shashikumar and Aryan Nehra unable to make it to the finals. Dhakshan finished in 15th place, while Aryan was close behind in 16th. Both swimmers fought hard but couldn’t keep pace in the later stages of their races.

Tough Day for Women’s Wheelchair Basketball
In women’s wheelchair 3×3 basketball, India faced a heavy defeat against Wales, losing 16-1. The Indian team struggled for scoring opportunities and managed only a single point throughout the match.

Gymnasts Show Promise
On a brighter note, Indian women gymnasts displayed resilience despite missing out on medals in the artistic gymnastics team final. Eshitaa Rewale, Prothishta Samanta, Pranati Nayak, and Nishika Agarwal showed potential, with Prothishta qualifying for the vault final with a score of 13.025.

As the Games continue, India looks to build on these performances and seek more successes in the upcoming days.
