Prime Focus Studios has formed an important partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment, which will take the film Ramayana to international audiences beyond India. This collaboration marks a big step for the highly anticipated mythological film, although the release of its trailer has been deferred to a later date.
Producer Namit Malhotra announced the news via social media, explaining that the global partnership led to the decision to push back the trailer launch. He expressed his excitement, stating, “Today marks a special moment for Ramayana. With our collaboration with Sony, my dream of bringing Ramayana to a worldwide audience is becoming a reality. Due to this partnership, we will now unveil our trailer globally at a later date. It’s a proud moment for Indian cinema, as Ramayana will reach audiences like major Hollywood films, showcasing the richness of our culture and stories. I thank all fans and supporters who made this possible.”
Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, and Sai Pallavi, Ramayana aims to be a grand cinematic experience available in multiple languages, including a premium English version. The film seeks to introduce one of India’s most beloved epics while highlighting themes of duty, courage, compassion, sacrifice, and righteousness.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film features a diverse international crew. It includes music by acclaimed composers Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman, action choreography from Terry Notary and Guy Norris, and production design by Ramsey Avery and Ravi Bansal. Namit Malhotra, who is also the Global CEO of the Oscar-winning visual effects company DNEG, is producing the film.
Sharing his aspirations for Ramayana, Malhotra stated, “For generations, Ramayana has inspired people with its timeless themes. Our goal is to honor that legacy while delivering a cinematic experience for audiences everywhere. With DNEG, we have helped bring to life some of the world’s most ambitious cinematic projects. Now, partnering with Sony Pictures allows us to share this timeless story with viewers around the globe.”
This collaboration represents one of the most significant international distribution deals for an Indian film, positioning Ramayana for a large-scale worldwide release on par with major Hollywood films. The anticipation for the film continues to rise as fans await its upcoming trailer launch.
