London, July 18: The United Colours of North East India Festival 2026 in London was a remarkable success, drawing over 500 attendees. Hosted by North East Indians in the UK (NEIUK) on July 11, this event marked a first-of-its-kind gathering, celebrating cultures from all eight states of Northeast India.
Held at the Indian Gymkhana Club, the festival showcased a variety of regional dishes, folk music, vibrant cultural performances, and an array of handloom and handicraft displays. The event received support from Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, a prominent figure from Tripura’s former royal family.
NEIUK aimed to raise awareness about the rich cultures of Northeast India among international audiences. The festival created a welcoming space for the local Northeastern diaspora in the UK to connect and strengthen community bonds. Attendees included professionals, entrepreneurs, artists, students, and families.
The festival particularly resonated with second-generation diaspora members, offering them a chance to explore the music, traditions, and cuisines of their ancestral homes in one lively setting.
NEIUK hailed this festival as a significant moment for the Northeast Indian community in the UK. They expressed hope that similar events will continue to promote and celebrate the cultural heritage of the region on international platforms.
