Prime Minister Modi Begins Trip to Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started a three-nation tour, visiting Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand. This trip aims to strengthen India’s Act East Policy and the MAHASAGAR Vision.
From July 6 to 8, he will be in Indonesia following an invitation from President Prabowo Subianto. This visit is significant as it builds on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership initiated in 2018 and is the first official trip since that partnership was elevated. The Prime Minister and President Prabowo will meet at the iconic Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta, highlighting the shared cultural heritage of both nations. Their discussions will include expanding cooperation in defense, trade, and cultural exchanges, as well as engaging with the Indian community in Indonesia.
Next, the Prime Minister travels to Melbourne, Australia, where he will meet Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Their discussions will focus on enhancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in areas like defense, security, trade, investment, education, and advanced technologies. Modi is also set to connect with the lively Indian community in Australia and look for new opportunities in sports and tech.
The final stop on his journey will be Auckland, New Zealand, where he will speak with Prime Minister Christopher Luxon. They aim to build on Luxon’s earlier visit to India in March 2025 and will focus on strengthening economic ties and implementing a recently signed Free Trade Agreement. During his visit, Modi will also address a large gathering of the successful Indian diaspora living in New Zealand.
