Uruguayan Referee Tejera Balances Whistle and Work in Insurance
Gustavo Tejera, a Uruguayan referee, is making waves both on the soccer field and in the insurance industry. Known for his skills as an official, Tejera has recently been involved in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. When he’s not on the pitch, he runs GT Brokers, an advisory firm in insurance.
Born in Montevideo in January 1988, Tejera has been a FIFA International Referee since 2018. He started his refereeing career in Uruguay’s top league in 2015. Since then, he has officiated prestigious tournaments like the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana, along with key CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers. Notably, he officiated the thrilling Liga AUF Uruguaya final in 2025 between two of the country’s biggest clubs, Peñarol and Nacional.
At the ongoing World Cup, Tejera has taken on important matches, including South Korea’s game against Mexico and Australia’s Round of 32 match against Egypt. Balancing the demands of refereeing at such a high level with running a business showcases his dedication and passion for both fields.
