Bratislava, Slovakia – June 16: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico have decided to enhance collaboration in several key areas, including defense, cybersecurity, and infrastructure. This commitment was highlighted in a joint statement released on Monday.
The leaders emphasized the need for stronger defense and security partnerships. They agreed to foster regular dialogues between their defense ministries and explore ways to deepen cooperation in defense technologies, research, and industrial collaboration. A significant milestone in this effort was the signing of a Letter of Intent on Defense Cooperation, aimed at developing mutually beneficial ties in the defense sector.
On the topic of cybersecurity, both leaders acknowledged the importance of protecting critical information infrastructure. They pledged to work together against cybercrime and to maintain an open and secure digital environment.
PM Modi and PM Fico also addressed the challenges posed by emerging technologies. They expressed their dedication to support each other in safeguarding IT systems from new quantum threats to encryption. Their cooperation would be further underscored by a Memorandum of Cooperation focused on critical infrastructure protection.
Another crucial area discussed was connectivity, which both leaders see as vital for their bilateral relationship. They highlighted the potential for strengthening joint ventures, technology transfers, and skills development in sectors like automotive and railways, which can lead to greater competitiveness and job creation.
The leaders noted Slovakia’s strategic location in Central Europe and India’s robust manufacturing capabilities as a way to boost trade and investment. They encouraged exploring direct flights between the two countries to facilitate economic ties and cultural exchange.
In a major step towards enhancing their strategic partnership, India and Slovakia signed a Letter of Intent on defense cooperation, focusing on joint development and production between their defense industries.
