Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has expressed his views on the ongoing debate involving Ranveer Singh, Excel Entertainment, and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) about the film Don 3. He took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to show support for Ranveer and criticize FWICE for their decision to issue a non-cooperation order against him.
The issue started when it was reported that Ranveer had stepped away from Don 3. Excel Entertainment, led by producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, claimed this withdrawal caused them substantial losses, estimated at around Rs 45 crores, due to various pre-production costs.
After the disagreement, FWICE issued multiple notices to Ranveer, requesting him to explain his side of the story. When Ranveer’s legal team questioned FWICE’s authority over this private contract, the federation decided to issue a non-cooperation directive against him.
In response, Varma criticized FWICE’s role in this conflict. He argued that the dispute was merely a contractual issue between two parties and didn’t warrant such a broad industry-wide intervention. He emphasized that such disagreements occur frequently in various sectors and should be resolved privately.
Furthermore, Varma suggested that FWICE does not have the legal standing to involve itself in these matters, stating that only the parties directly involved understand the full context of the situation. He urged that any legal matters should be settled in court if needed.
Varma also pointed out that despite the current controversy, Ranveer’s popularity and demand in the industry would remain intact. He highlighted that producers would still line up to work with him, acknowledging his market appeal.
He concluded by advising everyone to refrain from unnecessary interference in what he called a civil matter, emphasizing the importance of allowing the parties involved to handle their dispute without outside influence.
The conversations around the Don 3 situation continue to stir discussion in the film community. Notably, CINTAA Vice-President Padmini Kolhapure has voiced her support for Ranveer, while CINTAA President Poonam Dhillon indicated that the situation could have been different had the association been approached earlier.
As of now, representatives for Ranveer Singh have opted for silence, asserting that professional disagreements should be dealt with respectfully behind closed doors. It’s also reported that Salman Khan has been trying to mediate between the involved parties to reach a resolution.
Currently, neither Excel Entertainment nor Ranveer Singh has made any official comments regarding the future of Don 3.
