Hotel Prices Skyrocket in Ahmedabad Amid T20 World Cup Final

As the much-anticipated T20 World Cup final between India and New Zealand approaches, hotel prices in Ahmedabad have soared. With many cricket fans flocking to the city for the big match at the Narendra Modi Stadium, room rates have jumped by an astonishing 300 to 400 percent.

Narendra Somani, a local hotelier and president of the Hotels and Restaurants Association of Gujarat, reported that the demand has resulted in price hikes significantly above normal. “The rise is between 300 to 400 percent due to the increased demand for the T20 World Cup final,” he explained. Rooms that used to cost between ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 are now being offered for ₹15,000 to ₹50,000.

Online travel sites are also showing a sharp increase in hotel tariffs. For instance, a ‘Deluxe Room’ for two at Taj Skyline on Sindhu Bhavan Road is now priced at around ₹2.01 lakh, with an additional ₹36,000 for GST. This is nearly 20 times the regular price, which ranges from ₹9,000 to ₹15,000 on typical days.

Similarly, rooms at Welcomhotel by ITC Hotels are listed at approximately ₹20,950 compared to their usual ₹6,000 to ₹8,000. Hyatt Regency Ahmedabad is also seeing prices reach about ₹30,000 for the match night, nearly quadrupling the usual costs.

Somani noted that Ahmedabad has around 10,000 rooms available across various types of accommodations. While occupancy is expected to rise due to the final, the city may not be fully booked. “We anticipate around 80 percent occupancy on Sunday because of the match,” he said.

In light of the soaring prices, some fans are opting for alternative lodging. Some visitors are choosing to stay in Gandhinagar, about 25 kilometers away, while others plan to drive to Ahmedabad for the match and return home the same day. “Many people, especially from Mumbai, leave in the morning and arrive here by four or five o’clock, heading straight to the match,” Somani shared.

This trend is also seen among fans from other parts of Gujarat, such as Rajkot and Porbandar, who prefer to travel back home after the match.

As excitement builds up for the final, both local and international fans are making their way to Ahmedabad to enjoy this thrilling cricket showdown.
