New Saints Honored by Pope Leo XIV in Vatican Ceremony

In a heartfelt ceremony on September 7, 2025, Pope Leo XIV recognized two young figures as saints during a special Mass in St. Peter’s Square, attended by around 80,000 people. The new saints are Carlo Acutis, a 15-year-old tech whiz who passed away in 2006, and Pier Giorgio Frassati, an Italian student who died in his early twenties in 1925.

Pope Leo highlighted how both young men made their lives meaningful by dedicating them to God. He urged everyone, particularly the youth, to avoid wasting their lives and instead pursue a path that leads to a higher purpose.

Carlo Acutis, known as “God’s Influencer,” created a website that documented Eucharistic miracles recognized by the church. Despite being just a teenager, he took on this ambitious project that many professionals would find challenging. Sadly, Acutis was diagnosed with leukemia in October 2006 and passed away just days later.

Pope Francis was a strong advocate for Acutis’ canonization, believing that he could inspire young Catholics in today’s technology-driven world.

Pier Giorgio Frassati, in contrast, was recognized for his selfless service. He was dedicated to helping the poor in Turin, living a life marked by humility and compassion. It is believed he contracted polio while aiding those in need, leading to his untimely passing.

Both saints serve as powerful examples for today’s youth, reminding them about the importance of purpose and service in life. The Vatican looks forward to welcoming over 32 million visitors during this holy year, fostering a vibrant spiritual community.
