F-35 Fighter Jet Crashes Near San Diego, Pilot Rescued Safely
Los Angeles – A US F-35 fighter jet went down on Friday near a military base in San Diego. Fortunately, the pilot managed to eject safely before the crash, officials reported.
According to a spokesperson from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, the incident occurred around 10:00 am local time. “There was an aviation mishap involving a Marine Corps F-35B in the area,” the spokesperson confirmed.
The pilot was quickly rescued and is currently being taken to a medical facility. However, details about any potential injuries to the pilot or others involved have not yet been released. The military plans to provide more information in due course.
Videos shared on social media depicted a large plume of smoke billowing from the downed aircraft, while firefighters worked to control the flames.
Marine Corps Air Station Miramar is historically famous as the former home of the Navy’s “Top Gun” pilot training school, which gained fame through the classic 1986 movie “Top Gun” featuring Tom Cruise.
