In a recent announcement, Elon Musk revealed that the Grok chatbot will be launched as a standalone app for both macOS and Windows. This news follows a previous update from xAI, Musk’s AI startup, about the release of Grok’s latest version, known as Grok 3. The announcement was made on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
Musk shared in his post, “Grok will also be offered as a standalone application for macOS and Windows.” However, at this time, the app has not yet appeared on the Mac App Store or the Microsoft Store.
Currently, users can download Grok’s app for iOS, but there is also a sneak peek of an Android version. The Grok Android app is not officially available yet, as the listing on the Google Play Store allows only for pre-registration with a “Coming Soon” label. An xAI engineer confirmed that development of the Android app is underway, although no launch date has been announced.
Earlier this year, xAI officially released Grok’s iPhone app for all users after a brief testing phase.
The latest version, Grok 3, was launched recently and is currently accessible only to subscribers of X’s Premium+ plan. Some features in this plan include tools for “deep search” and “reasoning.” However, xAI has set aside some advanced features for a future offering called SuperGrok, which will be available through the Grok app.
Following the introduction of Grok 3, X has raised the subscription prices for Premium+ significantly, with increases of over 80% for monthly subscriptions and more than 70% for annual ones.
