India Aims to Become a Global Hub for Innovation

India is on a mission to position itself as a key player in global innovation and strengthen collaborations in emerging technologies, according to Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.

Speaking at the launch of the Bharat Innovates summit in Nice, France, Goyal highlighted that the summit aims to accelerate India’s innovation ecosystem on a global scale. He emphasized that the ultimate goal is to turn this vision into reality and make India a credible partner for innovation worldwide.

“The focus of Bharat Innovates is to boost our education system, but the true essence lies in our commitment to becoming the world’s innovation partner,” he stated.

This year has special significance, as 2026 is marked as the India-France Year of Innovation. Goyal pointed out that this timing is crucial given the current uncertainties in global geopolitics alongside rapid advancements in technology.

He also underscored the strengthening relationship between India and France, noting that the two nations have upgraded their ties to a Special Global Strategic Partnership this year. Goyal mentioned that both countries are actively engaging in discussions about innovation and artificial intelligence.

Remembering significant events, he noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi co-chaired the AI Action Summit in Paris in February 2025, while French President Emmanuel Macron participated in an AI Impact Summit with India in February 2026.

“To our friends in France, I encourage you to seize this moment to form valuable partnerships. I invite you to explore opportunities to visit, invest, design, innovate, and manufacture in India, catering both to our vast domestic market and for exports worldwide,” Goyal shared.

The Bharat Innovates summit, co-launched by Prime Minister Modi and President Macron, gathers startups, investors, entrepreneurs, technology leaders, and policymakers from India, France, and beyond to seek new paths for innovation, investment, and collaboration across borders.
