Morne Morkel Returns Home Following Family Tragedy

India’s bowling coach, Morne Morkel, has left Dubai unexpectedly due to a family emergency. He departed for South Africa on February 17 after receiving the sad news about his father’s passing. This event comes just days ahead of India’s opening match against Bangladesh in the Champions Trophy 2025.

Currently, the Indian cricket team is based in Dubai, where they will compete throughout the tournament. According to sources, the former South African fast bowler rushed home to be with his family during this difficult time. He was anticipated to play a key role in leading India’s bowling lineup, especially in the absence of star bowler Jasprit Bumrah.

Morkel shared a close bond with his father, often speaking about their relationship in interviews. He had mentioned that the first call he made after being appointed as India’s bowling coach was to his dad. "After the call ended, I spent a few moments reflecting. I called my dad before anyone else; it was a special moment for me," Morkel recalled, highlighting the significance of this time for him personally.

As India prepares for the challenges of the Champions Trophy, the team and fans will be keeping Morkel and his family in their thoughts.
