Berrettini Advances in French Open with Strong Victory

Matteo Berrettini, the Italian tennis player, continued his impressive run at the French Open by defeating Juan Manuel Cerundolo. Playing on Court Suzanne-Lenglen, Berrettini won in straight sets, finishing the match in 2 hours and 32 minutes. This victory marked a significant moment for Berrettini as it ended Cerundolo’s surprising journey in the tournament.

With this win, Berrettini reached the quarter-finals of the French Open for the second time in his career, matching his best performance at Roland Garros. After missing four previous editions due to injuries, he came into this tournament ranked World No. 105. His achievement makes him the lowest-ranked men’s quarter-finalist at the French Open since 2007.

Berrettini’s success has come through determination and hard work. In an earlier round, he saved two match points against Francisco Comesana to stay in the competition. Against Cerundolo, he showed his fighting spirit yet again, saving three set points in the third set and clinching the victory on his first match point.

There was also a sense of payback for Berrettini, as Cerundolo had previously caused a huge upset by defeating World No. 1 Jannik Sinner. Cerundolo’s journey in the tournament was impressive, but he seemed to struggle against Berrettini after spending more than 12 hours on the court in prior matches, including a nearly six-hour battle against Martin Landaluce.

Despite fighting hard in the second and third sets, Cerundolo couldn’t match Berrettini’s steadiness during the key moments. Berrettini remained calm and used his strong serve and forehand to finish the match efficiently.

Looking ahead, Berrettini is eager to continue his comeback story as he prepares to face either American Frances Tiafoe or fellow Italian Matteo Arnaldi in the semi-finals.

Canadian Star Shines: Auger-Aliassime Makes History

In other news at Roland Garros, Felix Auger-Aliassime also impressed as he defeated Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo with a scoreline of 6-3, 7-5, 6-1, earning his spot in the quarter-finals. This win made him the first Canadian man to reach the quarter-finals in all four Grand Slam tournaments.

The World No. 6 had a strong start, winning the opening set comfortably. Although Tabilo raised his game in the second set, Auger-Aliassime managed to secure a break in the 11th game and served out the set confidently.

He dominated the third set to close out the match, showing no signs of fatigue despite several exhausting contests leading up to this point. Auger-Aliassime will next play against Flavio Cobolli, who secured his spot by defeating American Zachary Svajda.

Stay tuned for more updates from the French Open!
