Tech Industry Layoffs Continue in 2024

The trend of layoffs in the tech sector persisted into 2024, following significant workforce reductions in the previous years. According to Layoffs.fyi, a platform that tracks job cuts, over 150,000 jobs were lost in 2024 across 542 companies. Major organizations like Tesla, Amazon, Google, TikTok, Snap, and Microsoft implemented substantial cuts this year, affecting not only large firms but also smaller startups, many of which had to shut down entirely.

Ongoing Monitoring of Layoffs

As we proceed through 2025, we are continuing to monitor layoffs in the tech industry and will provide updates on employment reductions. By the end of 2024, we plan to separate the data for 2024 and 2025 to make understanding these trends easier for everyone.

Tracking these layoffs allows us to see how they may influence innovation in various companies. It also highlights the potential effects of AI and automation on jobs previously thought to be secure. The human side of these layoffs is significant, reminding us of the personal impact on individuals and families.
