Celina Jaitly Makes Her Comeback with Sister Nivedita Biopic

After a 15-year break, actress Celina Jaitly is returning to the big screen in a significant role in an upcoming biopic about Sister Nivedita. Directed by Ram Kamal Mukherjee, Celina will portray the influential disciple of Swami Vivekananda, and she describes this opportunity as one of the most meaningful moments of her career.

In an interview, Celina shared that this project is very personal to her. She expressed excitement about working with Mukherjee, noting that collaborating with a filmmaker of his caliber allows her to fully immerse herself in the character and the time period. “It’s about becoming the essence of that era rather than just acting,” she said.

Sister Nivedita, originally named Margaret Noble, was born in Ireland in 1867. She met Swami Vivekananda in London in 1895 and later moved to India, where she dedicated her life to education, women’s rights, and social service. For Celina, playing her is more than just taking on a historical role; it feels like an answer to a calling.

Celina reminisced about her childhood connection to Sister Nivedita. She remembers traveling with her family through West Bengal and Darjeeling, frequently visiting Roy Villa, where Nivedita spent her last days. “I always felt an emotional connection to that place,” she recalled.

It was her mother who first introduced her to the inspiring story of Sister Nivedita. Celina reflected on how she never imagined she’d one day portray this remarkable woman, feeling it was as if Nivedita had called to her from the past.

Having spent many years in Europe, Celina is now excited to reconnect with her roots in India. She shared her thoughts on how life often makes sense in retrospect, likening her journey to discovering herself not just as an actress but as a person. “Sometimes, things don’t happen to break you; they happen to help you grow,” she added.

Celina admires Sister Nivedita’s unwavering commitment to India, saying, “She wasn’t born here, but she embraced India wholeheartedly.” The actress highlighted Nivedita’s dedication to women’s education and empowerment. “Her courage is truly inspiring, especially in light of my own challenges,” Celina noted.

While no release date for the film has been announced yet, the anticipation around Celina’s comeback continues to grow.
