Zoya Akhtar Addresses Hard Disk Theft at Tiger Baby Digital LLP
Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar has spoken out about a troubling theft at Tiger Baby Digital LLP, the production company she co-founded with Reema Kagti. This incident, which involves the loss of 66 hard disks containing important production information, has raised alarms within the entertainment industry.
In an exclusive conversation, Akhtar confirmed the theft, stating that the matter is under police investigation. She mentioned, “Yes, there has been a robbery in my office where hard disks were stolen. We filed a complaint, and the police have made some arrests. It appears to be an internal matter, which is quite disappointing.”
Fortunately for Akhtar and her team, they have backup files of all the missing content. “Luckily, we have backup files of everything,” she expressed.
The complaint was filed by Mehjabeen Mushtaq Shaikh, who serves as the executive assistant and HR administrator at Tiger Baby Digital. Following her report, the police in Bandra registered a formal case against two suspects, Mohammad Shahid Azim Khan and Ritesh Suresh Shah, who have since been arrested and are in police custody until May 29.
The situation came to light on May 21 when staff discovered that several hard disks needed for ongoing projects were missing. An internal check revealed damaged storage boxes and empty cases in the office.
According to reports, the production company had a total of 119 hard disks, with 66 found missing. These disks were crucial, holding vast amounts of data ranging from 16TB to 72TB, including raw footage, edited scenes, and post-production files.
Investigators speculate that the stolen data may include content from popular projects like Made In Heaven and Ghost Stories. Police officials announced that one suspect admitted to stealing hard disks over several months and allegedly selling them in the grey market. Authorities are now looking into whether any of the stolen data has been copied or leaked online before the disks were discovered missing.
