Kolkata: Bomb Attack Injures BJP Workers Near Victim’s Home
In a troubling incident late Wednesday, five BJP workers were injured when assailants on motorcycles allegedly threw bombs at them near the home of the RG Kar rape and murder victim in Panihati, Kolkata.
Police have already arrested three individuals based on CCTV evidence linked to the attack. The victim’s mother, who is also a BJP representative and won her election in the Panihati assembly seat, condemned the violence, mentioning that many of her campaign supporters were among those injured.
In a separate incident on Thursday in Howrah, two members of the BJP’s minority cell, along with a bystander, were seriously hurt when bombs were thrown during a victory procession. Their injuries are reported to be critical. Law enforcement officials believe these incidents may be connected to prior conflicts.
Additionally, a BJP functionary named Somnath Dhar was reportedly attacked and stabbed near his Baranagar residence, while in Basirhat, Rohit Roy of the BJP was shot during a clash between BJP and TMC supporters late Wednesday. BJP’s state president, Samik Bhattacharya, alleged that there were gunshots fired at party workers during this clash.
Authorities continue to investigate these incidents as tensions rise in the region.
