Hardik Pandya’s IPL Journey: KKR and Rajasthan Royals in Negotiations with Mumbai Indians

Hardik Pandya Likely to Leave Mumbai Indians Amid Trade Talks

Hardik Pandya might be preparing to part ways with the Mumbai Indians, with potential interest from two teams: Kolkata Knight Riders, co-owned by Shah Rukh Khan, and Rajasthan Royals.

Sources close to the situation have shared that there have been ongoing discussions between the management of Kolkata Knight Riders and the owners of Mumbai Indians about a possible player swap. This information comes from an insider who spoke to PTI on the condition of anonymity.

Pandya’s return to Mumbai Indians has been quite challenging, with the team only making one playoff appearance during his leadership.

A source revealed, “Ajinkya Rahane was always seen as a temporary solution for KKR and it was expected that he would be released after this season. The KKR management had reached out to the MI owners towards the end of the last season. However, with Reliance’s Annual General Meeting approaching, they prioritized other matters over IPL trades.”

It is reported that KKR has revisited discussions with MI’s top management and more talks have taken place recently. Should Pandya move to KKR, he may find the captaincy awaiting him, as Rinku Singh currently isn’t viewed as a strong captaincy candidate.

However, it remains unclear whether the Mumbai Indians are more interested in a cash deal for the star all-rounder or a player exchange.

According to IPL transfer rules, players cannot join in discussions about trades individually with other franchises. Only franchise-to-franchise talks are permitted, and a trade cannot happen without the player’s agreement. If a player does not consent, they must return to the auction pool.

Rajasthan Royals Also Interested?

Another potential offer for MI involves a trade between Hardik Pandya and Yashasvi Jaiswal from Rajasthan Royals. However, it is uncertain how far along these negotiations are.

With Rajasthan considering Assam’s Riyan Parag as a future captain, it could be a challenge for Pandya to take a leadership role there.

If Pandya’s transfer goes through, KKR seems to be a more attractive option compared to Rajasthan Royals at this point.
