Lucknow Super Giants Overcome Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Close Match

In a thrilling match at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) triumphed over the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 9 runs using the DLS method. LSG scored 209 runs for 3 wickets in 19 overs, while RCB managed 203 runs for 6 wickets in 19 overs.

The stadium has seen LSG struggle in recent months, with fans often leaving disappointed after eight consecutive home losses from the previous season. Coming into this match, things didn’t look promising for LSG as RCB was one of the strongest teams in IPL 2026, while LSG was facing serious pressure due to dwindling playoff hopes.

However, the tables turned dramatically thanks to intense performances by Mitchell Marsh and Prince Yadav. Marsh, in particular, set the tone early on. Touring RCB bowlers found it hard to contain him as he blasted 111 runs off just 56 balls, keeping the aggression alive despite frequent rain interruptions.

Marsh reached his half-century in a stunning 20 balls as LSG finished the powerplay at 68 without losing a wicket. In contrast, RCB struggled at 35 for 2 in their response. Collaborating with Arshin Kulkarni, Marsh built a solid opening partnership, adding 95 runs before Nicholas Pooran contributed a quick 38.

Rishabh Pant brought his trademark excitement to the innings, scoring an explosive 32 off just 10 balls, helping LSG set a challenging target of 213 runs. Yet, with RCB’s batting lineup known for chasing big totals, LSG fans remained on edge.

Enter Prince Yadav, who turned the match around for LSG. After a nervous start that included a misfield, Yadav took charge. He claimed the important wicket of Virat Kohli, who fell for a rare two-ball duck, leaving the crowd stunned. Yadav ended up with impressive figures of 3 wickets for 33 runs, helping to keep RCB’s batting lineup at bay.

Despite this, RCB almost pulled off a dramatic win. With Tim David making an explosive 40 runs off just 17 balls, the RCB dugout buzzed with hope. However, as the game neared its final stages, LSG players debated who should bowl the crucial last over.

With RCB needing 20 runs in the final over, LSG decided to trust Digvesh Rathi, who had previously taken a beating in his overs. RCB couldn’t find the right rhythm, and LSG secured a hard-fought victory with RCB ultimately falling short by 9 runs under the DLS rule.

This win not only broke LSG’s losing streak at home but also kept their playoff hopes alive, albeit by a thread. The team celebrated a much-needed victory as fans filled the stadium with renewed hope for the season ahead.
