Bangladesh Cricket Board Takes Strong Action Against Corruption

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken significant steps by charging several players, team officials, and franchise representatives over suspected betting activities and hindrance of investigations related to the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). This is the first big move against corruption since the BCB established its Integrity Unit in November 2025.

In a statement released on Thursday, the BCB shared that these charges stemmed from investigations by the BCB Integrity Unit (BCBIU) regarding alleged corrupt activities during the 12th edition of the BPL.

The board outlined that the investigations focused on issues like potential betting activities, improper approaches to players, lack of compliance with official notices, and efforts to hide or erase relevant communications. There were also concerns about some individuals not cooperating with the Designated Anti-Corruption Official (DACO).

Notably, team manager Md. Lablur Rahman and franchise co-owner Md. Towhidul Haque Towhid are among those charged. They stand accused of not cooperating with the investigation and allegedly obstructing it by hiding or removing important information.

Additionally, domestic player Amit Mojumder and manager Rezwan Kabir Siddique have been charged for allegedly placing bets tied to cricket matches, violating Article 2.2.1 of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.

The BCB mentioned that these individuals have been provisionally suspended and have 14 days to respond to the charges after receiving notifications.

Furthermore, the board has banned Saminur Rahman following an investigation into corrupt activities across several BPL seasons, including the ninth, tenth, and eleventh. The inquiry revealed connections to betting activities and improper approaches involving players and agents.

Alex Marshall, the independent chair of the BCB Integrity Unit, noted that these actions signify the board’s commitment to tackling corruption in cricket, emphasizing that this marks a crucial step in protecting the sport in Bangladesh. He indicated that investigations are ongoing, and more charges may emerge in the future.

The Integrity Unit had previously expressed concerns about suspicious activities during the 2025-26 BPL season and questioned numerous players and officials from various franchises during the tournament, which wrapped up in January.
