David Dhawan, the legendary filmmaker, has hinted that his next movie, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, might be his last as a director. Known for his successful streak of commercial films, Dhawan reflected on his career in a recent interview, mentioning the new film stars Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde, and Mrunal Thakur.
In the discussion, Dhawan shared, “I don’t think I should do more. This might be my last film. After this, I’ll just be Varun’s father,” suggesting he may be ready to take a step back from the industry. He also talked about his health issues during the film’s production, sharing that Varun was very supportive, ensuring he stayed in touch with doctors and caring for him like a true family man.
The director also highlighted the unique bond he shares with his son, stating that their personal relationship doesn’t affect their work together. “When I’m behind the camera, he’s not my son; he is an actor. I just need the result,” he explained, emphasizing his focus on professionalism on set.
Dhawan reminisced about how filmmaking has changed over the years, noting that in his early days, movies were often created on trust. He mentioned that even big stars like Salman Khan and Govinda sometimes didn’t hear complete scripts back then.
He praised Varun’s development as an actor, particularly commending his performance in Border 2, which he described as “brilliant.” Even though there’s no formal confirmation about his retirement, Dhawan’s comments have started discussions about whether Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai could be his final directorial venture.
