At 22, Woman Faces 18-Month Countdown, Points to Vaping as Cause of Lung Cancer

A 22-year-old woman from Manchester, UK, has received devastating news about her health after being diagnosed with lung cancer. Kayley Boda started vaping when she was just 15 and frequented disposable vapes. This led to serious health issues, including a shocking diagnosis and a grim prognosis.

In January 2025, Boda began to experience alarming symptoms, coughing up a brown substance that she described as having “grainy bits.” Despite visiting doctors several times, she was misdiagnosed with a chest infection. It wasn’t until she coughed up blood that doctors conducted an X-ray, discovering a shadow on her lung. After seven biopsies, she was finally diagnosed with lung cancer.

Boda underwent surgery to remove the lower lobe of her right lung, followed by chemotherapy. Initially, in February 2026, she was given the all-clear, which felt like a relief. However, just two months later, she faced another blow: doctors informed her that the cancer had returned, now affecting the pleural lining of her lungs. She was given just 18 months to live.

Reflecting on her ordeal, Boda expressed regret over her vaping habits. She initially believed that such a serious illness wouldn’t happen to someone her age. After her diagnosis, she has been vocal about the dangers of vaping, urging friends and family to stop. She states, “Stay off the vapes because they will catch up with you.”

Boda shared that her symptoms began shortly after switching to disposable vapes. She reports that her health rapidly declined, culminating in intense reactions to chemotherapy and the need for extensive medical care.

Now, as she faces the reality of her condition, Boda is raising funds for treatment to prolong her life. In sharing her story, she hopes to warn others of the potentially severe consequences of vaping. This tragic situation serves as a stark reminder of the unexpected health risks associated with vaping, especially for younger individuals.
