India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, recently welcomed Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and members of the Gujarati community at India House in Washington, D.C. This meeting aimed to discuss Gujarat’s initiatives to forge global partnerships in the fields of manufacturing and technology.
Ambassador Kwatra expressed his honor in hosting Chief Minister Patel, highlighting that the discussions were centered on enhancing the state’s appeal for international collaborations in key sectors like manufacturing and technology on his social media account.
This meeting took place during Patel’s official visit to the U.S., where he engaged with prominent American tech companies. Gujarat is looking to broaden its partnerships, particularly in emerging areas such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, data centers, and skill development.
The visit is part of the preparations for the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Summit in 2027, with the focus on attracting technology investments and fostering collaborations in cutting-edge fields.
Earlier in his trip, Patel visited the Google campus and had discussions with Vice President Chandu Thota and other high-ranking executives. He shared insights on their talks about strategic collaboration between Google and Gujarat, especially in sectors that could significantly enhance the state’s digital capabilities.
Topics included AI training for youth and educators, employing AI to improve agricultural practices, monitoring soil health, and enhancing climate readiness. They also explored Google’s AI solutions for securing data.
Additionally, Patel held discussions with Aravind Srinivas, the CEO of Perplexity AI, where they looked into potential collaborations, including establishing a research and development hub in Gujarat and opportunities for data center setups.
A meeting with Micron Technology’s CEO Sanjay Mehrotra was also on Patel’s agenda, where they reviewed the development of the company’s semiconductor facility in Sanand. Patel noted that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gujarat is positioning itself as a key player in the global semiconductor industry, with emerging hubs like Sanand and Dholera.
He mentioned that Mehrotra appreciated the swift approval from the Gujarat government for land use at the Sanand facility, reflecting the government’s commitment to advancing manufacturing and innovation.
Patel’s agenda also included a visit to the Consulate General of India in San Francisco, where he met with Consul General K Srikar Reddy. He expressed gratitude for the consulate’s hospitality and efforts to strengthen connections between the U.S. and India, as well as support the Indian community abroad.
These engagements underline Gujarat’s determination to attract technology-driven investments and bolster its capabilities in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure.
