Shubman Gill Struggles in Domestic Comeback
India’s ODI captain, Shubman Gill, faced a disappointing return to domestic cricket in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, managing only 11 runs in a match against Goa. Following his performance, he was subjected to heavy criticism on social media, with many fans questioning his abilities and calling him a “flat-track bully.” Some even suggested that his recent form slump has made it difficult for him to compete against lower-level bowlers.
Gill has had a rough time recently, having not scored a half-century in his last seven ODI appearances. His struggles have extended to T20 internationals as well, where he only registered one fifty throughout the previous year. This challenging phase led to his exclusion from India’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad announced last December.
This match marked Gill’s first outing in 50-over cricket since suffering a neck injury during a Test match against South Africa. Unfortunately for him, his comeback did not go as hoped.
In contrast, Shreyas Iyer shone in his return from injury, scoring an impressive 82 runs, highlighting the contrasting fortunes of the two players.
The cricketing world will be watching closely to see how Gill bounces back from this difficult phase.
