India Embraces China’s New Digital Visa System for Enhanced Travel

Published: December 22, 2025

India is poised to benefit from China’s newly introduced online visa system designed to make the application process easier for Indian travelers. This initiative aims to improve travel between the two nations and strengthen their growing relationship. With this shift to a digital application process, accessing visas for tourism, business, and cultural exchanges will become much smoother and quicker.

The Chinese Embassy in India has rolled out this system effective December 22, 2025. Indian nationals can now apply for their visas online, a notable advancement aimed at enhancing convenience for applicants.

This new online visa application system, accessible through the official website, allows users to fill out necessary forms and upload required documents digitally. This transition not only saves time but also marks an important step in modernizing how visas are issued.

For those who prefer in-person assistance, the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre in New Delhi will remain operational during weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It is located at the Concourse Floor of Shivaji Stadium Metro Station, Connaught Place.

Applicants will find that submitting documents is now more straightforward. After logging into their accounts on the website, they can fill out the visa application form and upload required paperwork electronically. Upon submission, they will receive updates on their application status and a confirmation email once the review process is finished.

It’s essential for applicants to closely follow the detailed instructions provided online to ensure a hassle-free experience. Before submitting their physical passports and other necessary documents at the Visa Centre, travelers must make sure their application status reads “online review completed” and that they have received a confirmation email.

The launch of this online visa application system is a positive development for fostering exchanges between India and China. Easing the application process is expected to encourage more travelers to explore each other’s countries.

Additionally, this announcement comes amidst a significant improvement in diplomatic ties between India and China. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in India confirmed that the visa regime for Chinese nationals visiting India for tourism and business is fully operational again, following a five-year suspension triggered by border tensions in 2020.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that tourist visas for Chinese visitors are now in effect, while business visas had already been reinstated earlier. This return to normalcy marks the culmination of a phased reopening that began in July 2025 and fully resumed by November 2025.

These resumed visa services are part of a broader effort to enhance cooperation between India and China. Additional steps include the resumption of direct commercial flights between the two nations, which began in October 2025, along with the revival of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra pilgrimage.

The return of regular visa services is likely to boost tourism and trade between India and China, emphasizing a mutual interest in improved cooperation. As the two most populous countries in the world move forward with these initiatives, there is hope that increased people-to-people connections will lead to stronger economic and social ties.

With the introduction of the online visa application system and the reinstatement of visas for Chinese visitors, both nations are set for an exciting era of travel and exchange in the coming years.
